Not eligible for 240-hour visa-free transit. Wikipedia also mentions a 5-day Shenzhen visa on arrival (Hong Kong border) and 6-day Pearl River Delta group exemption for tour groups.23

What changed

2025-2026China expanded its unilateral 30-day visa-free list (to about 50 countries in the NIA list checked, plus Latin American additions in 2025) and extended 144-hour transit to 240 hours for 55 countries. South Africa was not included in any expansion found.
