Visa requirement

South Africans can get a visa on arrival in Djibouti.

Permitted stay

You can stay up to 90 days per visit, and you can apply to extend.

Before you go

  • Passport validity

    At least 6 months.

  • How to apply

    e-Visa at https://www.evisa.gouv.dj: transit USD 12, short stay USD 23, card only, non-refundable, about 72 h (excluding Fri–Sat). VOA paid in cash (USD).

  • Where South Africans apply

    Online or on arrival. No Djibouti mission in SA was confirmed.

  • Accommodation or invitation

    Accommodation address and an invitation letter for the e-Visa.

  • Vaccinations, including yellow fever on return to South Africa

    DJIBOUTI: yellow fever certificate if arriving from a risk country. RETURN TO SOUTH AFRICA: Djibouti is not on South Africa's yellow fever risk-country list, so no certificate is needed on return unless you transited a risk country (or a risk-country airport for more than 12 hours) on the way.

  • Transit

    No transit visa needed if you do not leave the airport.
