Visa requirement

South Africans can get a visa on arrival in Jordan.

Permitted stay

You can stay up to 30 days per visit, and you can apply to extend.

Before you go

  • Purpose of visit

    Tourism. Business visitors and those combining Jordan with Israel/Palestine (multiple entry) should apply in advance via the Ministry of Interior e-visa service.

  • Passport validity

    At least 6 months from arrival.

  • How to apply

    Three routes: (1) Visa on arrival, JOD 40, single entry. (2) Jordan Pass bought online before arrival at www.jordanpass.jo (Jordan Wanderer JOD 70, Explorer JOD 75, Expert JOD 80, differing by Petra days); waives the JOD 40 visa fee if you stay at least 2 whole nights (3 days); waiver honoured at Queen Alia airport, Sheikh Hussein (Jordan River) bridge and Wadi Araba crossing. (3) Ministry of Interior e-visa at eservices.moi.gov.jo/MOI_EVISA (needed for multiple entry). Visitors arriving at Aqaba (ASEZA) get a free visa if non-restricted nationality.

  • Where South Africans apply

    On arrival, or online. Jordan has no resident mission in South Africa listed in sources checked; for paper visas contact the Embassy of Jordan accredited to South Africa (not verified).

  • Vaccinations, including yellow fever on return to South Africa

    No entry vaccinations noted. HIV test required for stays over 30 days (JOD 20 certificate). Jordan is not a yellow-fever-risk country.

  • Arrival forms

    No pre-arrival digital arrival card identified. Jordan Pass holders show the pass at immigration.

  • Extending your stay and overstaying

    Visitors staying over 14 days must report to the local police for registration with biometrics; failure incurs a JOD 200 fine on departure (applies to arrivals from 1 Oct 2025). Departure tax JOD 10 in cash at land borders.

  • Travelling with children

    Children under 12 enter Jordan Pass attractions free with parents. No specific SA minor document rule published by Jordan.

  • Confirm with the embassy
