New Zealand: do South Africans need a visa?

South Africans need to apply online for an e-visa before travel to New Zealand.

Single-entry: up to 9 months in an 18-month period. Multiple-entry: up to 6 months in each 12-month period. The exact period is set on the visa grant.

Visa required before travel. South Africans apply online for a Visitor Visa through Immigration New Zealand (INZ); the visa is issued electronically (eVisa). South Africa is NOT a visa waiver country, so the NZeTA is not available to South African passport holders (except South Africans who hold Australian permanent residence, see notes).123

Travel insurance

Not mandatory for the Visitor Visa. Visitors are generally not eligible for publicly funded health care, so travel insurance is strongly advisable.1
