Trip checklist: Solomon Islands
For South African passport holders. Last checked 5 October 2026.
Visa requirement
South Africans need to apply online for an e-visa before travel to the Solomon Islands.
Permitted stay
Tourist visa: 3 months per entry, multiple entries, visa valid up to 1 year. Total stay should not exceed 90 days in any 12-month period (Wikipedia).
Before you go
- Purpose of visit
Tourist (leisure and sightseeing), visiting relatives and friends (sponsor letter from family in Solomon Islands needed), business, journalist, and yacht visas are separate categories.
- How to apply
Online through the Solomon Islands e-visa portal (linked from immigration.gov.sb; the portal itself is at immigration.sig.gov.sb/evisa). Tourist visa fee: USD 50 online fee plus USD 100 visa fee. Business visa: USD 50 plus USD 450. Processing time not published.
- Where South Africans apply
Online. No Solomon Islands mission in South Africa was found. Questions: immigration.visas@immigration.gov.sb, phone +677 45650.
- Accommodation or invitation
Visiting relatives and friends visa needs a sponsor letter from family in Solomon Islands. Other requirements not published.
- Vaccinations, including yellow fever on return to South Africa
Solomon Islands rule not checked. South Africa's rule: you need a yellow fever certificate to enter South Africa only if you arrive from or transited a yellow-fever-risk country. Solomon Islands is not a risk country, so a direct return needs none, but a routing through a risk country in Africa or South America would trigger it.
- Transit
Solomon Islands transit visas are applied for through the same e-visa portal. Hub rules: via Australia, South Africans may use Transit Without Visa (air arrival, onward flight to a third country within 8 hours, stay airside); otherwise an Australian Transit (771) or Visitor visa is needed. Via Auckland, South Africans need a New Zealand Transit Visa (from NZD 235, up to 24 hours airside) unless they already hold a NZ visa.
- Confirm with the embassy
Rules change. Check the official source before you book.
