Trip checklist: Trinidad and Tobago

For South African passport holders. Last checked 5 October 2026.

Visa requirement

South Africans don't need a visa for Trinidad and Tobago.

Permitted stay

You can stay up to 90 days per visit.

Before you go

  • Passport validity

At least 6 months after departure (GSA).

  • How to apply

No application needed. Visa matters are handled by the Immigration Division, Ministry of Homeland Security (e-Visa portal at nationalsecurity.gov.tt/divisions/immigrationdivision/evisa-online/; Immigration.Visas@gov.tt).

  • Where South Africans apply

Not needed for short visits. High Commission of Trinidad and Tobago, Waterkloof, Pretoria: 012 460 9688, hcpretoriaconsular@foreign.gov.tt.

  • Return or onward ticket

    Onward or return ticket required.

  • Proof of funds

Proof of funds for the stay (UK advice).

  • Vaccinations, including yellow fever on return to South Africa

Destination rule: a yellow fever certificate is needed if you arrive from a country with yellow fever transmission risk; South Africa is not a risk country. Return to South Africa: this country has yellow fever risk areas on the WHO list, so South Africa requires travellers arriving from it, South Africans included, to show a valid yellow fever certificate. Get vaccinated at least 10 days before travel. The WHO risk listing was not re-fetched this session; confirm against the current NICD/WHO list.

  • Extending your stay and overstaying

Get your passport stamped on entry; extensions are hard without it.

  • Confirm with the embassy

Rules change. Check the official source before you book.
