Trip checklist: Azerbaijan

For South African passport holders. Last checked 5 October 2026.

Visa requirement

South Africans need to apply online for an e-visa before travel to Azerbaijan.

Permitted stay

You can stay up to 30 days per visit.

Before you go

  • Purpose of visit

Tourism, business and private visits. The e-visa does not allow paid work.

  • Passport validity

The official portal says the passport must be valid 3 months beyond the e-visa expiry date. The UK FCDO says 6 months from arrival for visitors, so allow 6 months.

  • How to apply

Apply only at the official ASAN Visa portal evisa.gov.az. Standard processing within 3 working days; urgent within 3 hours. Print the e-visa and show it at the border. Fees reported as USD 25 standard and USD 60 urgent, each including a USD 5 service fee (fee not seen on an official page this check).

  • Where South Africans apply

Online at evisa.gov.az. No embassy visit needed.

  • Accommodation or invitation

No invitation needed for the e-visa. Anyone staying longer than 15 days must register with the State Migration Service (free, online or in person). Fines apply if you do not.

  • Vaccinations, including yellow fever on return to South Africa

Azerbaijan publishes no yellow fever rule for South Africans. Azerbaijan is not a yellow fever risk country, so no certificate is needed to return to South Africa from Azerbaijan, unless you transited a risk country.

  • Extending your stay and overstaying

Not published for e-visas. Register with the State Migration Service if staying over 15 days.

  • Confirm with the embassy

Rules change. Check the official source before you book.
