Fiji: do South Africans need a visa?

South Africans don't need a visa for Fiji. You can stay up to 120 days per visit, and you can apply to extend.

Visa-free: a visitor permit is issued on arrival for up to 4 months (Wikipedia and The GSA, a South African visa agency). Not yet confirmed on Fiji's official list, whose Africa section did not display when opened. If South Africa is not on that list, a visa is needed before travel.1610

Vaccinations, including yellow fever on return to South Africa

Fiji's own rule not checked. South Africa's rule: you need a yellow fever certificate to enter South Africa only if you arrive from or transited a yellow-fever-risk country. Fiji is not a risk country, so a direct return needs none, but a routing through a risk country in Africa or South America would trigger it.9

Extending your stay and overstaying

Apply before your permit expires and pay the fee; extension of up to 2 months. Business visitor permits of 14 or 21 days cannot be extended. Overstay breaches immigration law and may lead to penalties; amounts not published.23

Transit

Fiji transit visitors must show an onward ticket to the next destination and an outward ticket from there. Hub rules: via Australia, South Africans may use Transit Without Visa (air arrival, onward flight to a third country within 8 hours, stay airside); otherwise an Australian Transit (771) or Visitor visa is needed. Via Auckland, South Africans need a New Zealand Transit Visa (from NZD 235, up to 24 hours airside) unless they already hold a NZ visa.278
