Trip checklist: Fiji

For South African passport holders. Last checked 5 October 2026.

Visa requirement

South Africans don't need a visa for Fiji.

Permitted stay

You can stay up to 120 days per visit, and you can apply to extend.

Before you go

  • Purpose of visit

The visitor permit covers holidays. Business visitor permits of 14 or 21 days also exist. Work, study or investment need a separate permit.

  • Passport validity

Valid for more than 6 months from the date of travel. Bring any expired passport linked to a current visa or permit.

  • How to apply

If visa-exempt: nothing in advance, the visitor permit is issued on arrival. If a visa is needed: apply online through IMMI HUB (immihub.immigration.gov.fj) before buying tickets. Single entry visa FJD 93.00, multiple entry FJD 185.00 (currency shown as $ on the official page). Processing time not published.

  • Where South Africans apply

No advance application if visa-exempt. Otherwise online through the Ministry of Immigration's IMMI HUB portal. No Fiji mission in South Africa was found.

  • Return or onward ticket

Be ready to show onward or return travel. Visa applicants must provide a confirmed return ticket.

  • Proof of funds

Evidence of sufficient funds may be requested (for example a recent bank statement). No amount published.

  • Accommodation or invitation

Required for visa applicants: hotel confirmation or a sponsor letter from family or friends in Fiji. Not stated for visa-exempt arrivals.

  • Vaccinations, including yellow fever on return to South Africa

Fiji's own rule not checked. South Africa's rule: you need a yellow fever certificate to enter South Africa only if you arrive from or transited a yellow-fever-risk country. Fiji is not a risk country, so a direct return needs none, but a routing through a risk country in Africa or South America would trigger it.

  • Arrival forms

A completed immigration arrival card is required (The GSA). Not confirmed on an official page.

  • Extending your stay and overstaying

Apply before your permit expires and pay the fee; extension of up to 2 months. Business visitor permits of 14 or 21 days cannot be extended. Overstay breaches immigration law and may lead to penalties; amounts not published.

  • Transit

Fiji transit visitors must show an onward ticket to the next destination and an outward ticket from there. Hub rules: via Australia, South Africans may use Transit Without Visa (air arrival, onward flight to a third country within 8 hours, stay airside); otherwise an Australian Transit (771) or Visitor visa is needed. Via Auckland, South Africans need a New Zealand Transit Visa (from NZD 235, up to 24 hours airside) unless they already hold a NZ visa.

  • Confirm with the embassy

Rules change. Check the official source before you book.
