Tajikistan: do South Africans need a visa?

South Africans need to apply online for an e-visa before travel to Tajikistan. You can stay up to 45 days per visit.

E-visa. South Africa is on Tajikistan's simplified visa procedure list, and citizens of those countries can get an e-visa at www.evisa.tj. South Africa is not visa-free.12

Apply online at www.evisa.tj (Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs). The e-visa is emailed to you; print it. Fee reported as USD 30, plus USD 20 if you add the GBAO (Pamir) permit; one tour operator reports USD 52. The official fee was not confirmed. Processing is usually several days but can be slow; apply weeks ahead.1456

No invitation needed for the e-visa. The form asks for an address in Tajikistan (a hotel booking is fine). Foreigners on a standard visa or visa-free must register with the Ministry of Interior within 10 working days of arrival. UK FCDO says hotels no longer register you, and that e-visa holders staying under the limit are exempt; check on arrival.134

29 October 2025Tajikistan raised several consular fees by decree, including visas for minors (USD 10 to USD 30) and student visas (USD 100). E-visa fees were not reported as changed.
