You get the visa when you land, not before. Expect to fill in a form, pay a fee and show supporting documents at the immigration desk. The visa is stamped or stuck into your passport there.

Before you go
How it works
What to have ready
The fee in an accepted currency (some countries only take US dollars in cash), a return or onward ticket, your accommodation details, and a spare passport photo in case it's asked for. Make sure your passport has blank pages for the visa.
Check where it's issued
Some countries only issue visas on arrival at main international airports, not at every land border. If you're arriving overland, check the destination page first.
Applying online instead
Several visa-on-arrival countries also offer an e-visa, which saves time in the queue. Where one exists, the destination page links to the official government portal.
